ABOUT
LANG DULAY
Lang Dulay was born on Lake Sebu of South Cotabato. She was born during 1928 and died in 2015. The T’Boli tribe’s weavers are also called “dream weavers” because the craft of weaving for the T’Boli tribe in the Philippines is a spiritual undertaking. From the conceptualization of the design, to the actual weaving process and how the finished product is treated, each part is handled with utmost sanctity and Lang Dulay was the most experienced dream weaver in the T’Boli tribe.
At age 12 her mother taught her how to weave the traditional tnalak or Tboli cloth. What sets her apart from other weavers is that while other weavers do contemporary and experimental designs Lang Dulay remains on doing traditional design patterns.
In 1998, in her late 70’s, Lang Dulay received the National Living Treasure (Manlilikha ng Bayan) award from the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for her contribution in the preservation of their culture and for her fine craftsmanship of the delicate abaca fibers
